Below is a letter from the St. Paul’s Elders regarding the resignation of Pastor Scharnell.

Dear Members of St. Paul’s,

On Wednesday, September 23, 2020, Rev. Steve Scharnell submitted the following letter to St. Paul’s leadership:

Dear St. Paul’s leadership,

This letter is to inform you of the resignation of my call here at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Oconomowoc, effective immediately. I have found a church and synod that I am more comfortable with. Because the LCMS is not in communion with them, I have been advised by the district office that I am not to give notice, but resign today. It is with great sadness and disappointment that I don’t have an opportunity to give proper notice. May God continue to bless this congregation and the Church.
Sincerely, Pastor Steven Scharnell

As a congregation, we would like to thank Rev. Scharnell for his ministry and service to our congregation and wish he and his family many blessings in the future.

In good will, we have agreed to pay him through the middle of October, when his expected new call begins, as well as give him his 3 weeks of unused vacation time. In addition, we will continue his insurance coverage through the end of October so as there is no gap in coverage during his transition.

We have been able to secure Pastor Kelling to return to St Paul’s, to assist in worship and other tasks, to ease the burden on Pastor O’Donnell for the next few months. Additional information on how we proceed will be presented at a later date.

As printed in the bulletin, the Board of Elders had already planned a listening session for our next meeting, on Tuesday October 13th. We encourage you to attend that meeting, where we hope to have answers to your questions by that time.

In Christ’s Service,
St. Paul’s Elders
