If The LORD is God, then he is outside of us. He gets to set the rules, not us. Since God is good the boundaries he sets for us are for our good. By eating the devil’s temptation Adam and Eve were telling The LORD that they would be their own gods and that he was not good. (Gen 3.1-21) Their eating was rebellion against God and brought the promised condemnation. (Rom 5.12-19) Jesus Christ, however, would not eat the devil’s temptation. In the midst of suffering He would not forsake God’s goodness. (Mt 4.1-11) He ate the eternal food of God’s Word and was vindicated. In Him, so too are we.
