Many times things don’t appear as they really are. Sometimes we expect one thing, and another happens. This is the theme of Jesus’ incarnation, life, and ministry on earth. We see examples, in part, in today’s Gospel lesson from Luke 17:11-19, “Jesus Cleanses Ten Lepers”. For example, Jesus heals with voice, not His hands. He heals the unclean that the priests wanted nothing to do with. The most unlikely candidate, the foreign Samaritan is the one to thank and praise God, and he is also the one who is saved. Jesus is not who the Jews expected nor was His means of salvation what they expected. But thanks be to God that Jesus is the unexpected Savior.
