Christ Rides through The Gate for Us
On Palm Sunday the King of Israel comes into His royal glory by the path of humble obedience “to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Phil. 2:8), for the cross is the fulfillment of His journey. The cross is “the gate of the Lord,” (Ps 118:20) and He–Jesus of Nazareth–is “the righteous one who enters through it” (Ps 118.20) for us. “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name” (Phil. 2:9). Knowing that the victory is won, in anticipation of the solemn celebration of His passion, on Palm Sunday we say with the people of old, “Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the LORD!” (Ps 118.26) and in so doing confess “that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Phil. 2:11).
